ALON MEI-TAL
Alon’s path to musical maturity is one built on perseverance, introspection and unrestrained nerdiness. His open-minded approach to music, including his appreciation for styles across the heavy metal spectrum, from epic and melodic to bone-crushing and brutal, mixed with his playful attitude and mindful philosophy combine to produce music and playing that is equal parts over-the-top excess and thoughtful construction… and probably written about aliens or ghosts or something.
Born in Israel, raised in the Midwest and coming to musical maturity on first the East Coast, then the West, Alon’s professional music career started at the age of 16 performing in pit orchestras around his hometown of Cincinnati, OH. Having always had a love for the strange and fantastical, to which metal lends itself perfectly, he would go on to attend and graduate from the Berklee College of Music where his passion for epic, heavy music was further explored, nurtured and honed. His time in Boston resulted in multiple ongoing performance opportunities playing everything from rock, pop, jazz, funk and even celtic music, in addition to his beloved heavy metal. He also began teaching privately during this time.
Alon relocated to Los Angeles in 2012. Soon after, perhaps in an act of “going native”, he began practicing yoga and incorporating mindfulness into his understanding of music and the creative process. Thus, “Mindful Metal” has become his primary means of musical expression.
Since his move to the West Coast, Alon has performed and recorded with instrumental prog/fusion artist, Nili Brosh, modern prog metal band, Hyvmine, melodic metal band, Sirion, and others. He’s performed nationwide and internationally and has been featured in online publications including Guitar World, Gear Gods and MetalSucks, to name a few. In recent years, Alon’s expertise have continued to include private guitar instruction as well as arranging and transcribing music for other artists. He’s currently hard at work on his first solo project as well as continuing to perform with the Nili Brosh Band.
